Discipleship Process

If you've been a part of Calvary for any length of time you will have heard our mission statement: Being and Making Disciples who Display and Proclaim the Lord Jesus Christ. It has a nice ring to it doesn't it? Even better, it captures the heart behind both the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20) and the Greatest Commandments (Matthew 22:34-46). But how does this translate into what we do week to week as a church? How does it translate into something tangible in our lives?

We've begun to use an expression to help us answer these questions, five simple words: worship. relate. grow. serve. go! Each one is a basic component of our Christian lives. Each one is an attitude that beats within the heart of a devoted follower of Christ. Each one captures a major ministry area in the life of our church.

worship.

The Christian life starts when someone becomes a worshipper of the true God through His Son in the power of the Spirit. At the same time, worship summarizes all that we do as we live for the glory of God. As a church, we express our corporate worship to God every Sunday morning through our songs of praise and our response to the preaching of God’s Word.

relate.

The Christian life is designed to be lived in community. Attending a church service is not enough. God calls us to love one another within the church. There are a number of ways you can develop relationships with people at Calvary, but one of the best is our Sunday morning LifeGroups that incorporate sharing, prayer, interactive teaching, and social activities.

grow.

No one ever arrives. Spiritual growth is a life-long pursuit. Are you hungering and thirsting after God and His righteousness? Much spiritual growth takes place on your own as you practice spiritual disciplines like Bible reading and prayer. Our Wednesday night GrowthGroups are designed to help you cultivate those disciplines and ultimately a deeper knowledge of God and His Word.

serve.

God gives every believer a unique combination of spiritual gifts to use in serving the body of Christ. The body doesn’t function right unless every part is working as God designed it.

go!

Everything leads to this (thus the exclamation point!). Our mission is to make disciples. We each need to present the gospel to the people that God sovereignly brings into each of our lives. As a church, we seek to encourage this through evangelism training and outreach oriented events. This is why we’re developing community service ministries. This is why we support missionaries around the world.
