Pastors

John Barnett, Senior Pastor
John Barnett joined our staff in August 2008 to fill the position of Senior Pastor. John has been teaching the Word of God for 32 years. Born and raised in Michigan, John has studied at Michigan State University, Bob Jones University (B.S., B.A., M.A., M. Div.), The Master's Seminary (faculty), Dallas Theological Seminary (Dr. of Biblical Ministry) and with Francis Schaeffer at L'Abri Fellowship. In these years of uninterrupted ministry, John has served in pastorates in Michigan, Georgia, Rhode Island, California and Oklahoma. He has served on the Faculty of the Master's College & Seminary and was an Associate Pastor to Dr. John MacArthur at Grace Community Church overseeing the Shepherding Ministries. During graduate school, John served as the Assistant Dean of Men at Bob Jones University for five years.
John launched a ministry in 1998 called Discover the Book Ministries to provide electronic copies of John's audio, video and text studies free of charge to pastors, missionaries and other believers. Since then this ministry has grown to serve saints in all 50 states and over 145 lands around the world, as well as through daily radio on a growing number of radio stations in the USA, Europe and the Caribbean. John is the author of The Joy of a Word Filled Family, Living Hope for the End of Days—365 days of devotions from the book of Revelation, Discipline Yourself for Godliness, and most recently David’s Spiritual Secret, a study of how David served God through his troubles, trials and disasters. John and his wife Bonnie have eight children: John II, Estelle, James, Julia Grace, Joseph, Jeremiah, Elisha and Elisabeth.

Bryan Craddock, Senior Associate Pastor
Bryan Craddock joined the staff in 1999 to provide leadership to Calvary's ministries to college students and single adults. In 2002, he moved into a newly created staff position for missions and evangelism. In 2005 he assumed the position of Associate Pastor. He is a graduate of both The Master's College and The Master's Seminary, having earned a Master of Divinity. Bryan and his wife, Shari, have three children: Matthew, Priscilla and Lydia. Bryan's favorite verse is 1 Corinthians 16:13-14, and in his free time, Bryan enjoys spending time with his family, playing the guitar and science fiction.

Jeff Whitaker, Missions Pastor
Jeff Whitaker joined the staff in 2007 to provide leadership in mobilizing the membership of Calvary to declare God’s glory among all nations. Jeff served 26 years with SEND International in church planting in Taiwan and in mission leadership. He has a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Western Michigan University and an Master of Arts in Missions from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. Jeff and his wife, Linda, have two sons: Ryan and Eric. Jeff’s hobbies include sailing, swimming and canoeing. One of his favorite passages of Scripture is Isaiah 6:1-8.
Ministry Staff

Jon Althoff, Worship Director
Jon Althoff joined the staff in 2002 as an intern and is now serving as the Worship Director. He has attended Calvary since 2000. He graduated with a B.A. in Music from Elmhurst College and from Western Michigan University with an M.M. in Saxophone Performance. He and his wife, Shea, have two daughters, Ella and Zoe. Jon’s hobbies include songwriting, music recording and disc golf. His favorite verse is Colossians 3:16.
Dan Bowman, Executive Director of Ministries
Dan Bowman started attending Calvary in 1994 and joined the staff in December 2006 to serve as the Adult Ministries Director. He went to Ohio State University and earned a BSME. He and his wife, Kathy, have three grown children: Ryan (Aimee), Phillip (Beth), and Megan (Derek) as well as eight grandchildren. His favorite verse is Ephesians 2:10.
Zach DeYoung, Communications Director
Zach DeYoung attended Calvary while he was growing up and joined the staff in 2006 as Communications Director to provide direction in communication & design for the many ministries of the church. Zach graduated with a B.S. in Graphic Design from John Brown University and has worked as a designer for DaySpring Cards as well as a freelancer. Zach and his wife Katie have two daughters, Elise and Emerson. He enjoys art, music, coffee, Apple products and doing freelance graphic design. His favorite verses are Ephesians 2:8-10.
Mark Duncan, Vocal Music Director
Mark Duncan joined the staff in 2007 as the Vocal Music Director. He has attended Calvary since 1982. Mark graduated from Western Michigan University with a Bachelor of Music Education and a Masters in Business Administration. He and his wife, Sue, have two daughters: Mallory and Natalie. Mark enjoyes reading, traveling and playing golf in his spare time. His favorite verse is Psalm 66:2.
Dan Johnson, Executive Director of Operations
Dan Johnson has attended Calvary since 1983 and joined the staff in 2005 as the Executive Director. He and his wife, Beth, have four children: Stephanie, Nathan, Matthew, and Ashley. Dan went to Western Michigan University where he earned his B.S. and M.A. His life verse is Colossians 1:10. He enjoys basketball, reading and yard work.
Nancy Kneeland, College Ministry Assistant (part-time)
Nancy Kneeland started attending Calvary in 2000 and joined the staff in 2007 as the part-time College Ministry Assistant. She and her husband, John, have four grown children and four grandchildren. Nancy enjoys travel, camping, winter activities, growing in the Word, her grandchildren and meeting new people. Her favorite passage of Scripture is Psalm 121.
Anna Matecun, Office Manager
Anna Matecun joined the staff in 1999 as the Worship Assistant and now serves as the Office Manager. She first attended Calvary in 1966 through high school, and after college and some years living out of state, returned in 1995. She and her husband, Brian, have two children: Bethany and Ian. She enjoys golfing, cooking, doing word puzzles, music and spending time with her family. Her favorite verse is Matthew 5:16.
Bethany Matecun, Receptionist (part-time)
Bethany Matecun started attending Calvary in 1995 and joined the staff in 2007 as the part-time Receptionist. She attends Comstock High School and the Kalamazoo Area Mathematics and Science Center. Her family consists of her dad, Brian, her mom, Anna, and her little brother, Ian. She enjoys reading, anything involving music, golfing and spending time with her friends and family. Her favorite verse is John 8:36.
Emily Peck, Receptionist
Emily Peck has attended Calvary since 2001 and joined the staff in October of 2006 as the Receptionist/Administrative Assistant. She and her husband, Dustin, have one daughter, Lauren, and one dog named Maslanka. She enjoys spending time with her friends and family, music, reading, playing games and watching football. Her favorite passage of Scripture is Lamentations 3:22-24.
Rachel Petersen, Campus Ministry Director
Rachel Petersen joined the staff in September 2006 as the Campus Ministry Coordinator. She is a graduate of Cedarville University with a major in Christian Education and a minor in Women’s Ministry. Rachel enjoys spending time with students, reading and cooking. Her favorite verse is Psalm 19:14.
Jared Ransom, Worship Intern (part-time)
Jared Ransom joined the staff in 2009 and is serving as the Worship Intern. He graduated with a B.M. in Music Composition from Cornerstone University. He and his wife, Meag, have a bonsai tree named Tan Dun and a Christmas tree named Pyotr that visits during the holidays. Jared enjoys composing music, cooking, and spending time with his wife and friends. One of his favorite verses is Romans 15:5-7.
Judy Schulz, Children's Ministry Coordinator (part-time)
Started attending Calvary in January of 2007 and joined the staff in February 2009 as Children’s Ministry Coordinator. She graduated from Moody Bible Institute majoring in Christian Education, received her B.A. from Grand Rapids Baptist College, and her B.S. in elementary education from Calvin College. She served as manager of Zondervan Family Bookstore in Portage for eleven years and has served in children’s ministries for over thirty years. She and her husband, Martin, have one daughter.. Her interests include reading, cooking, camping, traveling and gardening. Her life verses are Ephesians 3:20-21.
Heather Schutz, Children's Ministry Coordinator (part-time)
Heather came on staff in 2003 and works part-time as the Children’s Ministry Assistant. She has attended Calvary since 2001. She and her husband, Mike, have two boys: Ryan and Adam. Her favorite passage of Scripture is Psalm 46. She enjoys crocheting, photography, and spending time with her family.
Phil Schmidt, Financial & Accounting Director (part-time)
Phil Schmidt joined the staff part-time in 2004 as the Finance & Accounting Manager. He has attended Calvary his entire life. He graduated from Western Michigan University with a BBA in Accounting. He and his wife, Carol, have two grown daughters: Karen (Troy) and Rebecca. Phil’s hobbies include golf and reading. His favorite passage from Scripture is Romans 8:38-39.
Mia Slager, Worship Coordinator
Mia Slager has attended Calvary since 1999 and joined the staff in 2007 as the Worship Coordinator. Mia graduated from Western Michigan University with a B.F.A. in Music Theatre Performance and an M.F.A. in Performing Arts Administration. She and her husband, Josh, have two cats: Big Kitty and Little Kitty. In her free time Mia enjoys watching movies and scrapbooking. Her favorite verse is Philippians 4:13.
Jeremy Willetts, Middle School Director
Jeremy Willetts joined the staff in 2006 as the Middle School Director, shortly after he graduated from Cedarville University with a Pre-Seminary & Bible Degree. He and his wife, Kelly, have two children: Jackson and Bria. Jeremy loves sports of all kinds, collecting old video games and spending time with his family. His favorite passage of Scripture is John 3:16-18.
Amy Wolff, Missions Assistant (part-time)
Amy Wolff joined the staff in 2006 as the part-time Missions Assistant. She has attended Calvary since 2001. Amy graduated from Michigan State University in 1985 with a BA in Communications and from Western Michigan University in 1990 with a Masters in Business Administration. Her husband’s name is Matt. Her hobbies include running, mountain biking, reading, discipling women, evangelizing and making cards. Her favorite verse is John 14:6.
